Finland plans to create the largest strategic reserve of stocks in the European Union in case of emergency situations.
This is reported by European Truth, referring to the Ministry of the Interior of Finland.
The statement states that 242 million euros were allocated to the project by the European Commission. And it itself provides for the creation of a strategic reserve of means intended for use by the countries of Northern and Eastern Europe in case of emergency situations.
This reserve is planned to be created during 2024. It will reportedly include protective and measuring equipment, detectors, rapid tests, drugs and vaccines to be used by both first responders and the civilian population (including in the case of pandemics).
The head of the project at the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Tarja Rantala, noted the following: “Chemical, biological, radiological or nuclear threats are more likely due to the current global situation, and this also motivates the European Commission.” And she added that “this is also connected with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.”
This stockpile is set to be the largest since it will contain both protective and medical supplies under the EU Civil Protection Mechanism.
The idea is also for local authorities to expand their skill sets, as the EU expects Finland to provide “groundbreaking” knowledge and experience.
