In Germany, the exchange union of German publishers announced the start of a project to support the Ukrainian book market.
The goal is to support Ukrainian publishing houses, writers and journalists, as well as to improve Germans’ understanding of Ukrainian culture. An exchange between the Ukrainian and German cultural industries was also announced.
As reported by DW, on Wednesday, July 26, in the union, the program will be subsidized by the department of the German Minister of State for Culture, Claudia Roth. The amount of the grant is 900,000 euros.
Presenting the program, Germany’s Minister of State for Culture Roth accused Russia of “systematically waging war, in particular, against Ukrainian culture and social identity.” UNESCO has already counted about 270 museums, libraries, monuments, churches and historical objects destroyed as a result of the full-scale Russian war.
As part of the project, the German Publishers Association cooperates with the Frankfurt Book Fair, the Ukrainian Book Institute, and the Mystetskyi Arsenal cultural complex. Among the partners of the program are the Ukrainian online book publication “Chitomo” and the German cultural center “Goethe Institute”.
