In the coming days, a UNESCO mission will arrive in Odesa, which will conduct a preliminary assessment of damage to cultural heritage sites.
This is reported by the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine.
Attacks on cultural objects and their destruction and damage are equated to a war crime in the Organization. Its general director, Audrey Azoulet, previously noted that “this outrageous destruction marks the escalation of violence against the cultural heritage of Ukraine.”
In advance of the notification of the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, a press release on the UNESCO website stated: “UNESCO is deeply alarmed and strongly condemns the brazen attack carried out by Russian troops, which struck several cultural monuments in the center of Odessa, where the World Heritage Site “Historical Center of Odessa” is located.”
Active actions are expected to preserve and restore our cultural heritage and to exclude the Russian Federation from the membership of UNESCO, which still belongs to the member countries of the Organization.
