France plans to tighten control measures in the Hautes-Alpes department, near the border with Italy. The reason for this decision was the mass arrival of migrants to Italy, in particular through the island of Lampedusa.

“France will not welcome the migrants present in Lampedusa,” said the Minister of the Interior and Overseas Territories, Gérald Darmanen.
In order to prevent migrants from passing through the department to France, the minister is strengthening the system to combat illegal and clandestine immigration. Additional law enforcement officers are hired for this purpose. The purpose of such a decision is to “ensure the sealing of the Franco-Italian border in the Upper Alps.”
“Deployed reinforcements will be present as long as necessary,” said BFM DICI in the Hautes-Alpes prefecture.
