Today India celebrates Independence Day. Traditional celebrations include mass cultural events and competitions, national flag hoisting ceremonies, etc.

The country gained independence on August 15, 1947. Although the struggle for this began almost 100 years before – in 1857. Initially, the date of January 26 was chosen for Independence Day, and since 1930, this holiday began to be celebrated, although in fact at that time full independence from the British colonial rule had not yet been achieved. After 20 years, on this day, they began to celebrate the Republic Day.

Lord Mountbatten predicted the end of British rule in India and Pakistan as early as August 15, 1947. He also drew attention to August 15, as it was the second anniversary of Japan’s surrender.

It is known that on the eve of Independence Day, the head of state conducts an “Address to the Nation”. The Prime Minister of India delivers a speech at the Red Fort in Old Delhi. A flag-raising ceremony is held. In state capitals, many schools and organizations organize cultural programs.

In turn, local residents tend to celebrate with family and close friends, arranging picnics, organizing dinners in restaurants or going to the movies. Also on this day, balloon flights and kite-flying, concerts and various cultural events are held.
