On July 9, the opening of the Sensitive Content exhibition took place in the State Library of Berlin. It draws the world’s attention to the destruction of libraries in Ukraine, which occurred as a result of the full-scale Russian invasion of the territory of Ukraine.
The website of the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy states that the artistic curators of the exhibition were writer and artist Daria Bila and designer Sofia Hupalovska.
“We covered the war-damaged library furniture and books with white paint. We obscure reality in order to live on, but it comes through and speaks, in particular, through new Ukrainian books. The truth must be heard – the truth about the war, writing during the war and what art will be after her, when Ukraine overcomes the colonization pressure of Russia”, – these were the words of the women addressing the visitors of the Ukrainian national stand.
The exhibition “Destroyed Library” is supported by the Embassy of Ukraine in Germany and the Ukrainian Institute of Books and contains furniture from destroyed book collections of Ukraine. This exhibition will last until October 8 at the Staatsbibliothek.
