Deputies of the Lithuanian Seimas supported the ban on fur farms in the country from 2027.
This is reported by European Pravda, referring to LRT.
As a result of the final vote, 68 votes “for” supported the ban on breeding animals for fur, 25 votes “against” and 15 abstained.
Opponents of such a decision said that soon it will be forbidden to grow “chickens and even plants”, supporters – about the need to abandon the business that creates suffering for animals and provides luxury items for people.
The full ban will take effect in 2027. By this time, farmers have to curtail their activities and apply for compensation. The sooner this is done, the greater the compensation will be: in 2024 – 3 euros per animal in the herd, in 2026 – 1 euro.
Moreover, farmers were promised help with payments for laid-off workers, demolition costs and waste disposal.
