The Ministry of Economy of Latvia is developing a strategy to combat the acute labor shortage and facilitate the process of attracting labor migrants.
This is reported by European Pravda with reference to LSM.
Currently, the situation with labor availability is quite difficult. As the head of the Confederation of Employers of Latvia, Andris Bite, says, there is a shortage of people neither in the fields where qualifications are not needed, nor in those fields that require intellectual work.
“We are calling for the opening of this market so that we, entrepreneurs, can invite and bring people faster and easier. At the same time, the responsibility for their departure home should be placed on us, to control this period,” he said.
Economy Minister Ilse Indriksone explained that it is planned to put more responsibility on the inviting employer. He will have the opportunity to independently check whether the employee has the necessary education. Thus to ease the bureaucracy. In case of violations, employers will be deprived of the opportunity to invite workers from abroad.
Currently, the human capital development strategy is being finalized. It will involve a greater emphasis not on visitors, but on locals, since 27% of the working population is not economically active.
