The Irish company Ryanair is considering the possibility of resuming a small number of flights to Ukraine by the end of 2023, subject to successful negotiations with Ukraine regarding the partial opening of airspace.
According to DW, this was announced by the executive director of the airline, Michael O’Leary, in an interview with the Interfax-Ukraine agency, which was published on July 22.
“We are considering two plans: one – when the war is over and everything will be opened in one or two days. And the second, the most likely, according to which we can plan a small number of flights already at the end of this year,” said the director of the airline.
He reinforced this with the experience of Israel, where aviation continues to work despite rocket attacks.
The resumption of flights specifically to Kyiv and Lviv is being considered, but this will happen only if the European Aviation Safety Agency and insurance companies can be convinced that it is safe to operate a limited number of flights to these cities.
It is added that he also reported that the company is considering the possibility of building its own aircraft maintenance infrastructure in Ukraine after the end of the war, in particular, an aircraft engine maintenance shop, investments in which will amount to 500 million dollars.
