The Ukraine Fringe English-language theater festival has started in Kyiv. It will last until September 3. Its participants were 6 theater groups from Europe and Asia.
As Ukrainian Pravda reports, the Ukraine Fringe festival is taking place in Kyiv for the first time. In general, it became an update of the English-language theater festival PRO.ACT Fest, which was held in Ukraine from 2018 to 2022.
The organizer of the festival notes that the idea is to show that Kyiv is not just a city during a full-scale war. And even under such conditions, Ukraine can work and create art. The festival itself represents Ukraine in a new way for international participants.
“Actually, with this festival, we showed what Ukraine will be like after the war, which we will win. We show foreign participants an audience that knows languages, has watched, knows different types of theater, and not just classical or even experimental Ukrainian that has traveled to Europe and the world. That is, this festival is the Ukraine that will be a part of Europe,” explains Alex Borovenskyi.
Troupes from countries that actively support Ukraine and potential partners became participants in the festival.
“The first and most important thing for us was geography. We really wanted to cover different countries of the world. Currently, we have strategic partners of Ukraine on stage: two teams from the USA, one from Great Britain. We have a team from France, because we really wanted to expand on the European continent in particular. Two teams from Hong Kong are coming to us – and this is super important, because we would like Asia to join the artistic support of Ukraine,” the organizer adds.
All performances are in English or with English subtitles, and each will be shown twice.
