In the course of the phone conversation, President Petro Poroshenko congratulated Prime Minister of Malta Joseph Muscat on the Maltese presidency of the Council of the EU in the first half of 2017.
The leaders discussed the key issues of the Ukraine-EU agenda for the next 6 months and coordinated approaches to the enhancement of relations between Kyiv and Brussels.
The parties expressed confidence that Ukraine would further remain among the key priorities of the EU.
The leaders discussed steps for the completion of all procedures necessary for the EU’s introduction of the visa-free regime for Ukrainians and emphasized the importance of the prompt entry into force of the Ukraine-EU Association Agreement.
Petro Poroshenko expressed gratitude for the firm position and resolute support of the EU in the issue of restoration of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, including Crimea.
The two leaders discussed efforts for the intensification of economic cooperation, particularly in the sphere of agriculture and transport.
Joseph Muscat invited Petro Poroshenko to visit Malta at his convenience.
