In Sweden, for the first time in the history of actions with the burning of the Koran, a man was found guilty and sentenced for hate speech.

This is reported by European Pravda with reference to Bloomberg.

This year, a series of Koran-burning actions took place in Sweden again. This caused outrage in the Muslim world. In this way, Turkey’s opposition to the approval of Sweden’s application for NATO membership has also been strengthened and a debate has been ignited about the legal possibilities of banning people from publicly desecrating Islam’s holy book.

For the first time in a long time, the Linköping district court found a 27-year-old man guilty of “agitation against an ethnic or national group.” A man posted a video on social media of himself burning a Koran next to grilled bacon.

The court’s ruling states the following: “The court found that the video was directed at Muslims and not at Islam as a religion. The content of the video and the manner in which it was published clearly shows that the defendant’s primary purpose could not have been anything other than threats and an expression of disrespect”.

The man was given a suspended sentence: during two “trial” years, the defendant will face another punishment if he is convicted again.
